I'm going to have to try that combination a bit more. I could have 300/8 (no 1.7), 400/5.6 (M400), 510/13.6 (55-300+1.7) and 680/9.5 (400+1.7). I'm pretty sure that the 680 and 400 are the best options, but there is only one way to be sure and that is to try them all on the same subject with equalizing cropping for the frame.

I usually pair it with the Tamron 70-200 which clearly gives better results. Didnt have it on me at the time. Currently looking to sell the older 55-300 in order to purchase the 55-300 PLM. I need a versatile lens when im on the go. The Tamron can be heavy at times. Interested to see how the PLM pairs with the specific TC

I've always loved the sea and can watch the waves, etc., for ages - waiting to capture the next good wave !! Thank you.
