I own several copies of this lens. I did some test shots about a year ago around my house, and found that indeed, the DAL variant is optically slightly inferior to the DA. My personal opinion is that the DA simply cannot be beaten when you take the price point (particularly a used one) in relation to the image quality. I keep one with every camera, including my full frame K1 II.
