This lens is on my wish list. How hard is it to get decent focus when lens is tilted?

I'm pretty happy with the results I got shooting film, obviously using only the viewfinder for focus. Still, it feels like a bit of a guess using the VF only. In particular it is a challenge to confirm focus at the edges of the frame. Live View with focus peaking would be nice to have. But it is workable just using the VF.

Moderately cropped shot (on film) with the lens fully shifted up, showing significant barrel distortion:

which I was able to correct to this, using GIMP (working with the uncropped version):

Somehow the barrel distortion isn't nearly so apparent in this shot (also "full frame"), despite all the straight lines:

f/8, probably some upward shift

This one, on the other hand:

f/11, maximum downward shift (12mm) + downward tilt for Schiempflug

So, no surprise, barrel distortion is worst with the lens fully shifted. Small or no shift and it's not (very) noticeable in most cases.

ignoring the tilt/shift functionality, that interior shot of the hanger looks pretty clean on the sides, for being 24mm on a ff picture.

i have an a7r, and when you hit 24mm and wider on it, field curvature becomes a huge problem for a lot of the old primes.

interesting lens, thx for the pics.

I think this one was with no shift or tilt.

Full frame (K-1), uncropped, using both shift and tilt:

Probably f/11, using super resolution (pixel shift).
