Is it my imagination or are those a touch overexposed? Metering is weird with the older lenses sometimes so I was curious.

Not sure if it is a bit overexposed. A flash was used, but the colors look pretty much spot on. Maybe it's flash glare...

I'm new to digital photography. Is there a way to tell in software where the image sits on the exposure spectrum?

You can view the histogram in the rear LCD. The histogram is also a feature of many imaging processing software programs.

I'm still mystified as to how to read those in a way that is useful. Is there a tutorial?

Flash can tend to make things a bit harsh.
