This and others shows that you've really mastered landscapes with telephoto. Inspirational for beauty and technique!

Thanks. You're comment is appreciated. Some of the credit here does have to go to the DA 55-300 PLM. Before acquiring the PLM, I didn't do much telephoto landscapes because all the really telephoto zooms were so large and heavy. I own a Tamron 70-200, but I just don't want to carry that thing around with me wherever I go, or worse, leave it in the car where it can melt or get stolen. The PLM weighs less than a pound, folds up into itself so it is very easy to carry around, and yet within the range most useful for landscape photography (55 to 150 at f8) is pretty much as good as professional glass. Because of its optical quality and compact size, it's opened up a whole new world for me. I'm not sure any lens has had as big an impact on my work as this one.

Another DA 55-300 PLM shot, this time of Inyo Mountains:

Eleven years ago I bought the smc Pentax-DA 55-300mm ED zoom lens. This week I got the successor with PLM autofocus. Of course, I was interested in whether that was a superfluous investment or whether more could be expected from the new lens.

Apart from the quiet and relatively fast autofocus, the optical quality has increased considerably. I wrote a report about it on my website photoinfos.com. It is in German, but you can see the images and see, which lenses where used for that comparison. Otherwise google translate helps to understand the text.

Nice review. Unfortunately none of the images loaded on the site when I looked.

Very nice shot! Also the Night Heron earlier on. But this Osprey shot is a great action shot - sharp, and with a story (with the half-eaten fish in the claws)!
