Not your typical concert/performance lens, but it's nice when I need the reach. I was in the audience, the stage lights were bright enough for focal lengths that allowed f4.5-f5.6

I was out with mu DA*60-250 the other day with the 1.4 on it. I Missed some great images. I have absolutely no doubt with time to put the lens on a tripod the DA* would have produced superior images, but the heavier longer lens is harder to manage hand held. I missed quite a few shots when the day before with the 55-300 PLM I hardly missed any. Therein lies the conundrum, a properly held DA* gives a great image. But with a young bird sitting on a fence 5 feet way from me, with the slower focusing harder to hold steady 60-250 I missed them all.

People tend to give a premium to potential image quality and ignore the lower chances of actually getting sharp images at all when discussing lenses like this. I certainly would like to have nice sharp 55-300 image as opposed to the blurry images I got yesterday from the 60-250.

The longer the barrel of the lens when extended, and the heavier the lens, the less likely you are to be able to effectively hand hold a shot. I definitely thought I was going for better IQ taking the 60-250, but that just isn't what happened.

I'm really liking this lens, more than just the quick autofocus.

Tess is taking some folks out canoe camping after my rotator cuff flared up , preventing me from going. I wanted to send the 55-300 PLM as lithweigtht compact telephoto so I tried a few test shots on the K-1.

Not bad at all. Some slight vignetting in some corners but not at all what I was expecting.

Wide open at 55mm, almost no vignetting.

By the time you crop for this little fellow, no problem at all at 300mm. A bit more vignetting in the corners but a least a 30 MP image after cropping.

The K-1 and 28-105 plus the DA 55-300 combo will probably be our tripping combo going forward. On canoe trips, size and weight are at a premium.
