Great shots with this monster of a Lens. I have it also and honestly it is my most challenging lens. I wish I could add lots of great pictures but most of what I have taken with it are pretty bad..probably largely my inexperience..Lots of CA and purple fringing or just out of focus shots ( moving subjects) I have one picture that the lens really came through for me on.. Taken about 10 years ago on a birding trip in Florida.. The camera is a a k2000..

I know the lens is capable of great Images...but It definitely is not forgiving. The pics in this thread have inspired me to dust her off again and see if I can add some more pics to this thread... Thank you luftfluss!

Yeah, it's not up to modern prime standards, but it's still quite good. A tough lens to use, but the results can be worth it.

Amazing. When I see images like this, I wonder why Pentax is not more common out there.

Nice to see these older "K" Series super telephotos are still in use! A good option if you want a longer prime at a reasonable price.

I haven't had my K500/4.5 out for a year or so, but did use my K1000/8 within the last year. It's about the same optically, but way more of a pain to use than the K500/4.5.

Nice writeup. I chuckled at the comparison with the Impossible Whopper.

Cropped away 75% of the image, shot at f/6.7 or f/8, I can't remember which

A good performance by the big K, I think...
Really beautiful image!

3 recent photos with the the K500 + A 1.4x-L

The sparrow was with the lens at f/9.5, and i cropped away 2/3 of the frame.

The chipmunk was at f/6.7, no crop

The squirrel was at f/6.7, cropped away about half the frame. The squirrel was about 40 yards away.

Drizzly evening fox photo. With some careful work the K500 is pretty decent wide open...

Well, dang. That is a nice lens. I already shoot old manual lenses and have a sturdy tripod that holds my telescope.
Would not be good for bike rides unless I put a rack on the bike. Thanks for sharing!
