Pentax DA L 55-300mm f4-5.6 ED

I did not see a thread for this consumer-grade zoom lens...

this is the cheapest of the 55-300mm zooms - built without a metal mount, WR, and quick-shift; however, it offers the same optics as the rest of the 55-300mm line (not the PLM model), so can produce just as well...

Are you suggesting there are no bad lenses? That a lens is a tool that can do the job within particular parameters? From the side notes it is obvious you are out standing in your field. Your photos might also support that.

thank you...

I spend a fair amount of time standing in fields...

I tend to agree that there are better lenses and that most are capable of performing well, within certain parameters.

The budget version will suffice for stationary targets, for flying ones quickshift version is a must for those times when the focus misses. I have the HD version and spin the focus ring back to infinity cos it saves a lot of time and noise.
I agree it is optically a good lens.
The ships in the image below are about 11 miles away and are decently sharp at 100%. Taken on a tripod with a timer on.
