I'm well aware of the perspective that a longer macro lens and if the extra working distance, but adding the DA HD 1.4X gets you pretty closer to this.

So besides being a stop faster than the DFA 100, and manual focus, what attracted you to the lens?

I wanted something longer than the D FA 100 (plus I do not like using teleconverters)...

an idea of this lens' size:
This puts it in the same size ballpark as the Pentax SMCP-FA* 200mm f/4 ED Macro and Sigma 180mm f/3.5 APO EX. Not bad company to keep.

ok - an idea of this lens' size:

I was just considering this lens, found as an open-box for under $400...
But dang, I did not realize how big it was compared to my DFA 100WR! I see now why you mentioned it being a big son of a beast to use with 30MPH winds.

I've got an Irix 11mm "blackstone", and I love it. I also have the Pentax 100mm macro, and I love that one, too. Both weather resistant; but the Irix lenses are manual focus only, right? That don't matter much on the super-wide because of the extremely wide depth of field. But I sure do like having the autofocus in the 100mm macro. I don't think I'd be able to use the Irix macro without a tripod and time to do careful focusing (which flowers in the wind and li'l critters don't much accomodate). Big plus that it's a lot less expensive.
