Auto Chinon MCM 55mm f1.7 Macro (M42)

Noticed that this lens is missing from the Archive - the standard edition is there, but not the macro version:

side-by-side with Super Takumar 55mm f1.8

fully-extended

Nice, I might have a look to try to find it on ebay, I also have an eye to catch Helios 44M 58mm F/2 at the moment

Interesting It is m42 but the lettering is more like the later K-mount versions. Looks more eighties than seventies. DOF scale resembles 135 and 200mm Chinons of that era. I believe those were made by Sun, but this must be the Tomioka 55mm 1.7 design with a longer focussing helicoid.

Nice pictures! Macro at f1.7 must have a ridiculously thin DOF!
So it is 7.5 chocolate cookies high when retracted and about 10 chocolate cookies when extended. I love that unit of measure.

no idea, as there is so little info available...

it is a little glowy wide open, but that's not much of a surprise..

I'd like to find its lens diagram and compare it to the standard 55/1.7

I do know that this lens was also sold as a Porst, and apparently served as the basis for a similar lens by Alpa...

Very nice lens and shots, Dave. Interesting transitions between the in- and out-of-focus areas, too (especially that second shot of the twisted yarn). I'd love to see more from this lens...
