Pentacon Prakticar 28mm f2.8 MC

another member of the Dead Lens Mount Club - this one for the Prakticar B mount

that's her on the left, compared to an SMC 24mm f2.8:

please note: this lens has not been modified to work on a K-mount body; I'm using it with an adapter on a Fuji X-mount body.

Mine is anything but dead in it's original mount, regularly in use by my daughter (4th picture in the post) on a BX20s.

The VEB Pentacon followed a different strategy in the transition from M42 to a bayonet mount than Pentax: They reduced the register distance so that they could create a flanged adapter. This now makes adaption to K-bayonet difficult or impossible, i.e. it's not possible to reach infinity focus. I used some of them on a Canon EOS with a very thin adapter that somebody hand-crafted in Poland.

thank you for sharing this, Jens...

I was perhaps mistaken in calling it the 'Dead Mount' club.... perhaps more like 'Orphaned Mount Club'?

unfortunately, I may be attempting to create a silken purse from this lens, especially when compared to the other B-mount lens I have, the CZJ Macro Prakticar 55/2.8

Quality wasn't very consistent back in the 80s. My 28mm Prakticar (Meyer Orestegon) is actually pretty good, my Prakticar 35/2.4 (the praised Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon) less so.

I've spent the last two days shooting only with this lens, attempting to get a feel for it:
