Metering restrictions on K-7

Is it purely marketing reasons that the K-7 is limited to centre-weighted metering when using non-Pentax lenses?

It depends on is your non Pentax lens is an A series or not.
Anyway, it is up to the third party lens maker to ensure they are compatible with the camera body, the camera maker is under so such compulsion.
