SR Block

Pentax had to replace the SR Block on my K5. Does anyone know what that is and does? The symptom was a tilted horizon. Thanks.

Thanks, I thought that was probably it. I'm just curious as to how that would cause a tilted horizon. Again, thanks.

The sensor sort of "floats" on electromagnets. When SR is activaged, it moves the sensor to counteract the shake. Recent Pentax dslrs can compensate for rotational movement, as well as x-y movement. So, the SR mechanism can rotate the sensor slightly.

If the SR malfunctions, it might leave the sensor slightly tilted, causing a tilted horizon. It may have failed altogether, leaving the sensor permanently tilted and the SR completely non-functional. I believe that there are four electromagnets that move the sensor. If only one of them failed, it could leave the SR partially functional, but off-kilter and tilted, sort of like one flat tire on your car can cause it to pull to one side.

Thank you for that explanation. That makes sense and it sounds like that is exactly what happened. I had a constant tilt to the left. One side must have failed. Again, thanks.
