Using old Vivitar lenses

I need to know if old Vivitar lenses - used on a 35 mm Pentax - will work on a new Pentax DSLR. Thanks

Some few Vivitar lenses in PK (Pentax bayonet) mount have an over-large flange sticking out the bottom. This piece won't let the lens be mounted on a dSLR. It is easily fixed: undo the screws that hold the flange to the lens and remove the flange. Stash the screws and flange in case you ever want to sell the lens intact. No problem!

Depending on which Pentax film camera you have, the lenses may be either PK bayonet mount, or M42 screwmount. If the lenses screw onto the camera, then you will need what's called an M42-PK adapter. The official Pentax adapter is available from various sources, usually between US$30-$40. If your lenses don't have a screw-on thread, don't worry about this. Bayonets are easier.

Also watch out for the Ricoh pin on some Vivitar K-mount lenses. They will get stuck on your DSLR.

The warning signs here are: The mount might be inscribed KR or PK-A/R. And the aperture ring will have a position marked 'P' or 'A(P)'. If the lenses don't look like that, then don't worry. If they DO look like that, see this thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-beginners-corner-q/62194-ricoh-pin...ed-remove.html
