Pentax K2000 LCD screen won't turn on

The camera will turn on and take pictures. It seems like everything works, but I can't get the LCD screen to turn on. Anyone have any ideas?

You mean, after taking a picture, you press the Play button and nothing happens? Or perhaps you are expecting the camera to have Live View? It doesn't, nor do most DSLR's made before the last couple of years.

No. I mean the display is unresponsive. None of the buttons turn it on. The camera functions well otherwise.

Try turning your camera on while holding the menu button. Does it turn on then? If not, then it might be broken.

Holding the menu button while turning the camera on does not do anything. The warranty is expired at this point. Is there anything I can do to try to fix this? I am willing to take the camera apart.

Don't have the cam with me now but if I recall, go to option #21 in the menu (display status) (page 221 in the manual) and set it to ON.

That's going to be difficult with the display off.

Just had this happen on my K-5 last night. The body battery was dead and I couldn't get to the menu to change to the other one cuz there was no LCD. Took the dead battery out and swapped it with the other one and it came to life. The dead battery is on the charger now. I changed the battery selector to AUTO. I suspect yours is a power issue as well.

Oops. You're right, the display doesn't work so you can't access the menu system. .

You could try to reset the camera by removing the battery and leaving it out of the camera for a short while. How long will it take? I don't know.

Well, if you do manage to reset the camera and the LCD still doesn't work, I guess it's time to send it in for repair. .
