Night shooting

I have a 1969 Spotmatic with 1.4/50 lens. I am considering taking it to Finland next month to try to capture the aurora borealis/northern lights. I have a digital camera but the widest aperture is f2.8. Any tips on exposure times, film types, settings, etc?

Hi, Andrew. I assume you will be shooting slide film? If so, one of your exposure criteria will be determined by your film speed. At f2.8 and ISO 200, an exposure of about 30 seconds should get you in the ballpark but I would try doubling and halving this time as well. The immediate feedback of a digital image is what you will be missing the most!
