10MP setting

Pentax K20D - No matter what MP setting I select, the picture(s) are always less than the MP setting.
Questions - (for example) I set the camera for 10MP. Will the camera take a picture that is 10MP when shown on the computer screen?
How do I set the camera to take a picture that will be 10MP?

In the Info window you can select the quality of your image. Once you select it, this will applied to the future pictures. But don't understand how you can say that the pictures you shot are not 10Mp if you select 10Mp in settings.

Perhaps you are confusing MP with file size????

I just took a random look at a folder on my computer, all taken at 10MP jpeg, the file sizes varied from 2700-3900KB with an image size of 3872x2592. The file sizes varies depending on the elements in the photo and the total number of colors.

True. On my K10D, a 10MP jpeg, at three-star quality (the highest the K10D has), is usually about 3 MBytes. However, it is still very definitely a 10 MPixel image. This is because jpegs are, by definition, compressed. The degree of compression can be varied and the less compression that is applied, the bigger the file will be and the higher the image quality.

I believe that your K20D has a four-star image quality setting, which should probably create a file about 3.5-4 MBytes for a 10 MPixel image.
