How does putting in the wrong card cause it to melt?

Genny, we've all done some pretty dumb and stupid things with our camera equipment over the years - no need to beat yourself up over this! Hummm, let's see - put my wife's camera down on a slanted table top - three feet to the cement floor - not a pretty picture!!!

Anyway, I suspect your 'solution' will be a repair center.

Bummer!!

Short circuit, maybe?

It'd still be pretty tough.. unless he literally jammed a card in there that couldn't have fit.

Yeah, can't see how anything would melt even if it was just one of those dummy plastic cards that sometimes come in a card-reader on a laptop. You must have short-circuited something. Exactly what was this "wrong card"?

Or has Fisher-Price come out with a "My First DSLR" for toddlers with gummy bear cards?

Tough break

Your solution is to swop systems for Pentax. No pentax user has yet complained about this.

What model of card and camera are involved? This doesn't sound like a very probable scenario.

Put some pork-fat on it, it will make it taste like chicken

the memory card could be CF card which is more accident prone like bent pins; one of many reasons I choose Pentax over other brands. The best option will likely be the repair center.

Here is a complaint for you :-). Although not melted, one of my cards shows visible signs of being overheated. Until less than a month ago I've been using Pentax cameras exclusively for like 7 years... So, Pentax can heat things up pretty good.

Wow. Didn't know Canon's range incorporated microwaves

There should be a Canon dealership you can send it to, if the worst comes to the worst. Like what we have in Britain with Pentax, our head office for Pentax is in Newcastle. There should be one for Canon in your country.

Hope this helps

How could you possibly get a wrong card installed? I mean wouldn't that be all but impossible? Something smells fishy here.

cf type II is thicker and can draw more current as some were microdrives. The newer cameras use the thinner type I. Maybe a type II was jammed into the slot??
