Format sd card

I have been deleting my photos off of my camera via my computer. On my computer it looks as the images are gone but when I go to use my camera it says that my memory card is full. I have tried to delete the images by going into menu but nothing changes. Any tips would be great.

I presume you have tried formating the card and not just deleting ? Next... make sure you have not inadvertently moved the card protect switch on the card.

Depending on the computer, if you use a Mac to do the deletions the space when doing a get info on the Mac will show the free space, but the images are still there in the recycle bin. Empty the trash with the card in the computer and they will be gone.

It is recommended however to only format the card in the camera. After down loading the images and after confirming the backup, unless they don't matter put the card in the camera and do a format. This is the best practice. That way you know the card is now empty.

If you properly delete the image files, e.g., by emptying the trash or bypassing the trash altogether (on Windows you can use Shift-Delete), then it is not necessary to format the card in the camera.

I haven't formatted a card in camera for years and never had a problem.
