K1000 compatible lens?

Hello,

I am looking for more lenses to use on my pentax K1000. My friend has a digital SLR with a 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens that turns out great shots, and I'm wondering if there is a lens close to that 24-70mm range for my manual camera.
Any insight is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Gillian

Any lens with a K mount and an aperture ring will work with a K1000, obviously autofocus will not work regardless of the lens, and since the K1000 uses a split prism focusing screen fast glass is better and makes manual focusing easier. There is a pretty complete lens database here in Pentax Forums, here is a link to all the compatible lenses for the K1000 Film Era Pentax K-Mount Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Any K-mount lens with an aperture ring will work on your camera. This includes offerings from Pentax, Ricoh, and many other makers. For the zoom range you mention, there are a ton of choices. A medium-range zoom was the standard kit lens for most K-mount bodies for most of the decade of the 1980s and beyond. See the lens review database.

I can personally recommend the Tamron SP 35-80/2.8-3.5 (01A). Paired with a compact 28mm prime and you have a nice walk-around kit for your K1000.

Any K- Mount Lens will fit AF or MF but try some of the independents as The K-Mount is so common you can shop about on E-Bay Camera Shops or even charity shops and boot sales e.g a Pentax 50mm f2 Pk from a K1000 will fit a Z1p and a 28-80 PAF power zoom off a Pentax Z1p will fit a K1000 does that give you a bit more wider area to look

Basically any K mount lens will work.

Even ones without an aperture ring (ie: brand new ones) the only downside is that you cannot adjust the aperture, it will stay fully open, you will need to change the shutter speed to ensure correct exposure.

You can get some interesting effects using modern lenses designed for digital on a film camera, for example, the 18-50mm Sigma that came with my istDS digital creates a very wide angle of view with a circular framing when used on a film camera at 18mm
