Film Advance

I am thinking of purchasing my friend's mother in law's MG. While checking it out we were trying to load film into it and were able to advance once, push the shutter release button and then that was it. We could not advance the film any more. The advance lever moves half way and then binds up. Any ideas?

Did the shutter trip when you hit the release?

Are you at the end of the roll? If so, push the button on the bottom of the camera and rewind the film.

Does the advance lever springs back from the half way point or it will sit there and you and move it back with some mechanical resistance?
