Auto Focus Problem

Outdoors seems to work fine, but indoors when the shutter button is pressed at the 1/2 way point to focus the lens goes in and out continuosly before finally taking the picture.. by then its tooo late. What could be the problem? I've got a battery problem solved by changing to the eneloop batteries. But can't seem to fix the Focussing....

The AF system on the ist DL isn't very advanced, and combined with slow lenses such as the two zooms above, you can expect a lot of hunting in low light.

I'd recommend upgrading to something newer such as the K-30.

I had a DL and still have a DS.
In reasonable light ( even in an ordinarily lit room) I would have to say the focus on those old cameras is faster and just as accurate as the K-01.
They do not hunt either. In low light they buzz the flash, in very low light like a TV room the AF does not work and they hunt.
I would suggest to put the 18~55mm on, set the camera to manual focus ( switch is on the left side near the lens) and using the focus ring, outdoors, focus and see if you get a red flash then a green confirmation dot at the bottom of the VF.
If that works, take the lens off and make sure the screw jack coupler ( near the AF/MF switch) moves in and out when you move the switch between the 2 positions.

My ist dl does do the 'buzz flash' keeps doing it I miss so many photos! It never did it when it was newer...

ok.. I tried outside and using the MF I do not get any kind of a red flash, but the green light at the bottom does come on... Don't know what I'm looking for on the screw jack coupler, but there is a tiny screw that moves when I switch the MF AF switch..
