Problem with K-30 cable shutte release

I experience intermittent operation of my relatively new K-30 with a Pentax shutter release cable. Sometimes it works in both manual and automatic focus; sometimes nothing happens in either mode, and sometimes in the AF it focuses but does trip the shutter. I have made sure the plug into the camera is fully seated with no effect, then without any of my doing, it suddenly starts working fine in all focusing modes. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and if so were you able to find a solution?

Perhaps in the situations where you couldn't get it to fire, the AF wasn't locking focus? Try af.c to test this theory.
