Without knowing which lenses your actually talking about, you will find that most Pentax lenses are backwards compatible, with differing levels of functionality.

It's one of the joys of being a Pentax owner.

If one of your lenses is the first version of the kit lens (DA 18-55): Resolutionwise this was designed for the 6MP sensor.
With the 10MP sensor of the K10D / K200D / K-m(K2000) it was already at its limit.

The 14MP sensor of the K20D / K-7 clearly outresolved this lens, so Pentax replaced it with the DA 18-55 II. The optics of this are identical with the cheaper DAL 18-55 and the more expensive DA 18-55 WR. All 3 are still good enough (resolutionwise) for the 16MP of the K-5 / K-01 (just).

However, if you don't look at your pictures at stronger magnifications than you did with the *istD, you may not see a difference.
