X-5

Anyone here familiar with this camera? A DSLR is out of my reach
right now and I was wondering if this would be a usable camera for
fun photos.

Personally I don't have one so have no experience. I have to leave that up to others.

It's a good all-around camera, especially at the current sale price:

Pentax X-5 Digital Camera (Black)12761 B&H Photo Video

The viewfinder isn't the best, but I think the camera would still satisfy the needs of most beginners.

I saw one close up in London. The owner allowed me to hold it. She was from France.
What a sweet little camera.

My young daughter got this camera to replace the first "real" camera (a Canon compact) that she outgrew. She enjoys it quite a bit. I haven't yet borrowed it to try. But I did quite a bit of research on it before recommending it to her. It seemed like a good buy.

A practical feature of the X-5 is that uses AA batteries. It has also a 1 cm macro mode.
That's only the tip of the iceberg, read the X-5 user manual for a complete overview.
