It seems you are referring to a previous post, but I don't see it.

Perhaps you need a new battery?

I know on an old S40 of mine, it would shut down immediately due to a short, saying the battery was depleted. The fix for that was to push on the lens, back into the body, to push the connection back - it worked.

One common problem with cameras with extending lenses is the stripping of the gears , or channels for the lens to move. I got a LS1000 which had this, and the only solution was to switch out the lens.

Does it seem to extend the lens. If nothing happens, maybe the lens is jammed - push and wobble the lens during startup.

I agree that your issue has nothing to do with software... it is either the battery, the lens (which might be stuck - it happened to my old Sony P&S) or the camera just might have broken. Is it still under warranty?

I enjoy that little camera by the way. It's way more useful than the specs suggest (especially regarding the outdated sensor...)

Step 1: Clean the battery contacts
Step 2: Check the battery contact spring/spring leaf. Sometimes they get compressed and dont make contact all the time.
