D-7 shutter button freezes

Upon occasion, my D-7 simply refuses to take a shot. After changing various settings, I discovered that it is linked to the autofocus, i.e. putting the camera on manual focuses allows me to take the picture. I am usually shooting with a Tamron 28-300 mm lens. Any insight into what may cause this?

Low battery voltage perhaps?

I don't think so

I don't recall having to change battery soon afterwards. I jsut take other pictures with no problem. Or turn off autofocus and take this one. My suspicion is that the autofocus is confused (for example, by a long receding central line), but ti doesn't appear to be hunting.

Well, my camera has frozen on me due to low voltage, even if the battery isn't run completely dry. Can you consistently reproduce the issue on your end?

Good question

Haven't tried. I don't think so. Right now, I don't have any low batteries. But I'll try to experiment when my current battery runs low. You're right that it sounds like a lack of power. Someone on dpreview (who never resumed the thread) said several possible settings could produce behavior like this, and asked if the lens hunted. I didn't recall that it had. (There was a long pause before I replied...apparently too long.)

Sounds like your cam is set to release shutter after confirming focus. No focus confirmation in AF= no shutter release, time to read the owners manual.

p.s. That Tamron could also be the culprit, try an other lens and see if it works better.
