K-30's AE in low light

Hi,

I'm a DSLR and Pentax newbie, I have purchased K-30 recently. I am somewhat disappointed by the function of auto-exposure metering in low light. For example: when I try to take a photo in a dark room, the AE system sets exposure to 4 seconds and the photo is completely dark. When I switch to M mode and set longer time (at the same aperture and ISO), AE says the photo will be severely over-exposed. However, that is my only option to get a correctly exposed shot. This only happens at very low light. Is this normal behavior? I'd expect AE to set the time correctly up to 30 s...

Cheers,
Viktor

Viktor, Make sure that the contacts on the lens and camera body are clean. This can confuse the camera. If that doesn't fix it, change for fresh, top quality batteries, after cleaning the battery contacts and in the battery housing as well. The camera uses voltage to decide things, and if the voltage is off, the camera is off.
