Or you could get another K1000 cheap on craigslist or goodwill. Some people try to sell them for a lot, some people realize they're not worth much anymore. I've seen them as low as $30, including a 50mm f/2 (and as high as $500 with the same cheapo lens).

There are 18 of them on ShopGoodwill right now (well, 18 of them that are labeled properly, and probably another 10-20 that aren't),

Well, I might as well try to fix up the one I have. It says they haven't been tested, so it could end up worse than my camera.

Any K1000 that hasn't already been serviced needs to be at this point, it is indeed best to just send yours in as you know everything works and it just needs standard service.
One exception to that though, it should have the Asahi logo (AoCo in triangle shape) on the top front of the pentaprism housing above "Pentax" the ones without the logo are the cheapy plastic part filled Chinese built later K1000's and those are fine to use but not worth having serviced with all the cheap metal ones floating around.
I actually planned even before I won the auction for my Pentax MX that just arrived that it was immediately going to Eric to be fully serviced, its just par for the course for these old film cameras and it will be good for the next 20 years afterwards usually.

You may also wish to consider the other options out there before you pick a camera to send in, browse through the K mount film camera review section on this site if you want details on what they all came with and consider what is important to you.
Or just send the K1000 in and buy a second camera later, everyone should have a K1000 and more than one film camera is handy if you are halfway through a roll and suddenly need or want a different film speed or black and white vs color.

Don't ignore it. Send it to Eric for CLA'ing. He'll fix it up, tune it up, and send it back to you for relatively little money, and you'll have a virtually new K1000 on your hands to play with. Ignore it and it will only get worse until the mirror completely sticks (or worse yet, breaks).
Fix it and enjoy it.

I've tried emailing Eric a couple of times about repairing my Spotmatic and have yet to get a reply. I wonder if he might be away from home or something? I've never dealt with him.
