Optio S10 won't to stay ON

My Optio S10 is turning ON (the lens is opening wide, the LCD is lighting) but after a second the camera is turning OFF (the lens is retracting and the LCD is dark again). It is repeating every time. I checked the battery and the battery connections, the SD card is formatted also but the problem is still remaining.
Thank you if you can help me.

Is the battery old? You might need to pick up a replacement if so.

The battery is about 4 years old and it is the original one. I never had battery charge problems or short time of functioning.

I suspect more some infection of the firmware because I put my SD card to a infected comp ( I had to erase everything on the card - even the Pentax files ) and short time after that I had the problems.

Thanks for your help.

A virus will not infect your camera. It uses a different CPU that couldn't run virus code if it wanted to.

I had an Optio S12 that did what you describe if I happened to hold my finger on the power button a little too long. Might you have spilled something on the camera that is making the power button sticky?

Adam is probably right - four years is pushing it for a rechargeable battery of any type.

Usually Li rechargeable batteries have a lifetime of 3-6 years, depending on how they were used.

After 4 years, even with a very good charging management, reaching 30% or more of the original capacity would be an exception.
