file name

Can the format of the file name be changed so the a chronological date is used? For example 2014-07-04 [YYYY-MM-DD]

You can't do this in-camera with current Pentax cameras, but desktop software like photoshop can easily batch rename files for you.

If you do not have photoshop or another capable program, I used for many years a freeware program called Stamp 2.8. Takes a little to set it up the way you want but after that you just run a batch of files through it and it will rename them to just about anything you want, including a date stamp. I used 2014.07.02@11.15.30.jpg for years. And when I moved to Lightroom I just set Lightroom up to use the same format.

I use Lightroom and have it rename the files as they are imported from the camera. Here are some actual filenames: 20140702PENTAX K-30-0003, 20140614E-520-0006, 20130702PENTAX Q-0023. I have it setup to use the year, month, day, Camera Name, and three digit series starting at 001. Lightroom also creates a folder with the date. I'm pretty sure you can even put the camera serial number in the name (if you have two cameras of the same model). 20140614E-520-0006 is from my son's Olympus E-520. apparently it does not pick up the name "Olympus" in the exif.

I use Renamer v8.2 to change IMGP to YYMMDD (and sometimes do other things) , but I always manually add a brief description ("Church") and on occasion change the sequence number to make the series flow better.

So, it is "140613Church.jpg", and it goes that days' folder "YYMMDD Short Description".
