over-tightened rewind crank?!

Hi all,
I have bought an old Pentax mx, had great fun using it for a few film rolls and now seemed to have broken it and hoping to find out how I can fix it! I was rewinding a film, the crank gradually became harder to turn but I thought this was probably normal as more and more film was wound into the canister. But in the end it became impossible to rotate it any further - seems I've over-tightened it If I try turning the crank the other way (anti-clockwise) it just unscrews from the small thread. The crank wont lift up to release the back door. Any ideas?! Thanks!

Well, if you can advance the film after a shot but pushing the rewind button on the bottom doesn't disengage it, I'm stumped. Hopefully someone who can actually help will be along soon.

Are you sure the rewind button hasn't sprung out again by itself?
I remember in my film days this happened occasionally during rewinding.

I think I also had one body where I had to keep it pressed down all the time (during rewinding).

You did push the small rewind "release" button on the bottom of the camera, right?

Hi guys thanks for your comments, after reading them I fiddled around with the release button some more and think it had been sticking/not releasing properly, but sufficient force/fiddling seemed to do the trick!! sorry it took so long to post a thank you!
