Welcome to the forums, James

The K-3II, being WR (Weather Resistant), is a great fit for outdoor adventures. I'm sure you'll love it.

Other features aside, is Canon 6d AF better in all or in some circumstances?

My last Pentax was a K-5, and that combined with a Sigma 150-500 was tedious focusing at airshows....and prompted me toward something else, which has ended up at the 70D and 6D.

The 6D has a very sensitive low-light center AF point. I really only use the center point and recompose, so I don't even know the different AF speed of the same camera using different points. :-)

The K-3 has improved AF over the K5, however.

This is another reason I got the 6D as it was cheaper than another focal length TS. (The 40D [and a 5D Original] was sold to a co-worker :-)

Canonstein.

The only other thing the OP needs to bear in mind is the lack of an internal flash on the K3-ii. If he needs flash for anything he does, he'll need to either buy one or have a compatible one he can fit on.

The 6D doesn't have internal flash either...

If you're mainly interested in landscape and architecture, I think you would definitely benefit from the wider angle fo the 16-85 instead of the extra reach of the 24-105. It makes a big difference, especially for sweeping vistas and enclosed spaces.
Err.. the 6D is a fullframe camera, so a 24mm focal length on that body gives exactly the same angle of view as a 16mm lens on a K-3 II.

Nice of you to come back and post your thoughts regarding your future acquisition. I forgot to say one thing (or not...I don't remember) My first Pentax camera (a K-5 II) went to some pretty heavy conditions (waves and sand from beaches, snow and cold temperatures, etc.) without letting me down. I haven't tested K-3 II on heavy conditions, but I had the same feeling as with K-5 II, that it can't be broken by bad weather. With Canon on the other hand I tend to protect a little the camera because I know it can't take the same "abuse" as Pentax did.
Well...

Just to be clear, I referred to the Canon 6D vs Pentax K-5 II (or K-3 II) built quality. In this regard Pentax is better than 6D. But Canon 7D Mark II is as tough as K-3 II in terms of built quality.
