Hi Guys,

Just wondering if I could use SMC Pentax 67 200mm F4 on my Pentax K-5 as it (without an adapter). Also, which would be a better lens when compared to SMC Pentax 67 200mm F4 vs Pentax 55 -300mm SMC DA L 1:4- 5.8?

Thanks!

It would require an adapter.

It would be a 200mm f4 that likely is prone to ca. Being a 6x7 lens it will be HEAVY and perhaps not as high quality as your k5 would get from a modern lens.

The 200 Pentax for the 67 is a proven performer and I have never seen CA from it. Not sure how it compares with the 55-300 though.

The 67 mount is wider than the K mount, and also register distance of the 67 system is much bigger.

Both you can see here:

An adapter is the best way to use that lens on a K-5.

That said, its not impossible to use it without an adapter. What you need is a way to hold both the camera and the lens at the right distance from each other steady, and something to block light from entering the space between them. As a first approach, try to mount the camera and lens on a piece of wood, fold a black paper to form a roll, and cut the length of the roll so it holds the flanges approximately 4 cm apart. This is practically a home made dirt cheap dirt quality adapter.

Its in theory possible to free hand hold those without something to block the light in between, but in my opinion its a waste of time unless you are trying to make abstract art.

I've used my 200 f/4 on my K-3. It's a fantastic telephoto that's as sharp as an FA lens and has no noticeable CA.

Here are some samples.
