We have lenses, now we need a camera

I teach media/graphic design. My program was give two Tokina lenses and a Pentax ZX-60 film camera. What would be an equivalent digital Pentax camera for these lenses? The lenses are 28-80 mm and 100-300.

Thank you!

The K1 is full frame so would have the same field of view with those lenses as a 35mm film camera.

Indeed, the K-1 gives the same angle of view, however the lenses will fit any of the Pentax cameras with a "K" mount, such as the K5, K3, K-50, K-30 etc. However, the view will be a bit more telephoto. Also, depending on the lens, it may lack some modern conveniences.

Budget? Are you okay with buying use/refurb/etc or is new a requirement?

It would be much cheaper to get equivalent lenses on a digital camera than to get a camera with equivalent field of view for those lenses.

I don't think those lens are really worth worrying about. They're probably fine on the film set up, but on any reasonably priced Pentax camera (APS-C), they'll be weirdly telephoto, and the K-1 is so much more expensive just to use old Tokina zooms.

As others have said, the Pentax digital camera bodies that will fit those lenses come in two different sensor sizes. The one that will give the same field of view as the ZX-60 is the K-1, which is a fairly high-priced body with a sensor the same size as a 35mm film frame, but also very capable. The two current other Pentax bodies (the K-3ii and the K-70, plus all the previous Pentax DSLRs) have APS-C sensors that occupy a bit less than half the area of a 35mm frame.

I don't know how familiar you are with DSLRs, but as a consequence Pentax bodies other than the K-1 have what is called a "crop factor" of 1.5, which in practice means (for example) the Tokina 28-80 on an APS-C body will give a narrower field of view, equivalent to a 42-120 zoom lens on a 35mm body. This may or may not suit your purpose in the media program you are involved with.

Tokina made (and still makes) some very good lenses, but again, I don't know which models those are, and they may or may not have auto-focus and auto-exposure capabilities, which can be useful but (again) may or may not suit your purposes.

As others have stated, it's probably better to start fresh with camera and lenses. What's your budget? What's your goal in your class? Things to consider:

1) Really low budget ($500-$1,000) = used K30/50 with several manual lenses
2) Moderate budget ($1,000-$2,000) = Used K-3 and several used AF lenses (DA 35, DA 50, DA 16-85mm, DA 55-300mm
3) High budget ($2,000-$5,000) = K-1 and D FA 10-30mm, D FA 28-105mm, D FA 70-200mm, or combination to reach top end of budget.

Hey I used to teach photography.media/graphic design... the lenses are best used with film with the camera they came on. Have you a darkroom? Personally I wouldn't buy a new camera for those lenses.I Might shop for something second hand. My board prohibited second hand purchases. Unless you have a secret slush fund, you should probably talk them into a new K-S2 or K-70 with a kit lens, and use your lenses to compliment the 18-50 that comes in the kit.

Thanks for the advice.
Now I start to understand why, when I enter a certain store, they say:

Here comes the micturater.

In the fifties we lived in a "flat" in Montreal P.Q. A flat was usually a living quarter above a store, called so because it was flat, no stairs or other elevations inside the "flat". .
