lenses for the kp model

Can't find anything about using the smc PENTAX-DA 18-270mmF3.5-6.3ED SDM, well specifically this lens being compatible with the auto-focus on the kp - best I can see it functions only in the manual focus mode when attached . . .

Hello Gary, welcome to Pentax Forums.

There is info on the lens here: SMC Pentax-DA 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 ED SDM Reviews - DA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

It does mention the lack of autofocus compatibility with earlier Pentax bodies (*istD series, K100D and K110D), but nothing about newer ones.

As a rule of thumb, newer Pentax bodies fully support the AF and exposure systems of older lenses. So, the 18-270mm will work just fine.

Since it's a SDM lens, you won't be able to activate continuous video autofocus, but that feature doesn't work particularly well anyway. You can still use on-demand video autofocus, however. All AF modes for stills through the viewfinder and live view are of course supported.

I would personally recommend the 18-135mm DC + 55-300mm PLM over the 18-270mm lens, as you'll get better image quality and much faster AF. (plus weather sealing)
