finally got my SMC PENTAX-DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL IF DC WR Lens WHOOPY over the moon
put it on the k50, Oooh its asking me the focal length like it's an old manual lens, surely that's not right ?
so i put 135 and press ok , It's in auto focus and auto pic mode so i point it around at different objects at different distances but no auto focus. no buzz or werrr from it, even with button half depressed. so i go to mf, manually focus on a target and shoot !!!!!!!! what the!! it goes into like burst mode shutter clicking about 6 times and freezes . it has taken 1 blurred photo and now the camera is frozen , can't even turn it off!
have to take out the battery to turn off the camera . I immediately take off the 15-135 mm WR lens and fit the old kit lens, thankfully every thing works well again with the kit lens.
so i change back to the the 18-135mm lens and off it goes again same problem,

any help/advice for getting it working would be greatly appreciated

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera mounts. Could be a bad connection.

If that doesn't help, exchange the lens.

cleaned with pure alcohol, earlier today , bought it from japan so really don't want to send it back just yet, could it be a software translation problem, ?

The request for focal length is indicative of failure to communicate. If cleaning fails then send it back or try another body to be sure the lens is at fault.
