There aren't any counterfeit versions of these lenses, AFAIK. It would be a little hard to pull off.

There are "grey market" offerings, which come without warranty but are otherwise genuine. Usually an easy way to spot them is when an advertised price is below the minimum (MAP) price that authorized dealers are allowed to sell at. While sites such as B&H, Adorama, and Amazon proper are all authorized dealers, third-party Amazon and eBay sellers may not be.

I always thought all Tamron lenses were aftermarket..

Well down on the side of the lens barrel right in front of the Mfg by Tamron there will be a "Not"

if it has Tamron written on the lens it is original Tamron, if it has a different name on it , it is not original Tamron

So you are saying Tamron subcontracted their designs to various 3rd party companies for manufacture?
Interesting. Like Vivitar, I suspect.
