Carefully clean the contacts in the battery compartment. What type of batteries are you using?, are they the same ones you last used?

Energizer lithium, used them for several years and had no failures other than the usual depletion. Contacts are bright and shiny...

Insert the batteries but don't turn the camera on for an hour. Sounds a daft idea but it is believed that the slow trickle of power helps the camera and functions to wake up.

^^^. This here. The internal battery (capacitor) has lost all power due to not having a battery installed for so long. It may take some time with the battery installed and just setting.

I wonder if the OP has or can obtain the optional AC power cord K- AC -10 ( page 28 of the owner's manual I linked to ) to see if that would allow the camera to turn on

I did find a third party cord, perhaps it might work ?:

Hey guys Tks for all the responses, although the batteries all checked out ok, but didn't work, I next tried alkalines and things "lit up", so I went out and bought some new lithiums and viola. After reading all your reply's I believe the act of repeated attempts did the same as putting it aside for a while and "woke" it up. Thanks again now I"m ready to roll again. Love this camera and wouldn't trade it for anything.
