Best case scenario is she loved the gift and he's been accompanying her while she uses it to photograph everything in sight.

Attempting to close the loop here (and using my generally amazing psychic abilities), I can tell you that the OP did purchase a K-1 for his girlfriend along with (strangely) a full set of M series primes. She was at first taken aback by them but then vowed her eternal love for them and for him as well. They are currently taking an extended vacation to the Himalayas where they are attempting to photograph the elusive Yeti for a small, Yeti-focused blog that he runs.

He would like to express his unending thanks to the denizens of the Pentax Forum for giving him wonderful advice that has allowed him to express his love so clearly.

After buying the K1 what he could afford for lenses was ...welll...just enough for some ' immaculte condition' and mint 'M' lenses.

I guess thats how it went

Well what would you say if someone bought you a K-1 camera and then took you off on an amazing Yeti-hunting expedition?
