It's all down to personal tolerances, I guess. I'd happily shoot raw with my K-3 at ISO 6400 all day long, subject to some gentle post-processing - and the KP clearly outperforms the K-3...

I still say if your low-light needs are such that the K3II was unusable and had to be gotten rid of, you really might want to look into a cheap A7s or something

Or a Nikon Df used on ebay....Great ISO performance

There is no doubt that the KP performs well at higher ISO values and probably better than many APS-C cameras, but considering the P to P graphs in post #10, does anyone agree with the points mentioned in post #11 regarding the lower ISO values?

My understanding of sensor technicalities is limited so I ask, looking at those graphs, do the results suggest that there would usually be no need to set the ISO below 640 on the KP, unless (e.g. using a wide aperture in bright light) it would require a shutter speed beyond the maximum, in which case the ISO should be set straight to 100 (i.e. ignore those intermediate values)?

A used DF on eBay is still more money than a NEW Pentax KP (or even K70) whose resolution and low-light performance is better than the Nikon DF offers based on what I'm reading.

KP still doesn't match FF noise performance.

D750, Z6, A7III, S1, even a cheap EOS RP all have better high ISO noise performance than a KP.

KP is great for what it is.

Well yes!! This too. But I was aiming for something that could be picked up for close to, or below, the $1k mark, used. I couldn't find any K1ii in that range.

Well I dunno how good an argument it is to offer a used D750 or the like vs. a new KP to make the cost to ISO performance benefit work, but I get the idea.

but KP is often priced close to $700 new, but even so it can 'play with the big boys'.

I don't put much stock in those graphs. According to those the KP bests the D750, but in actual photo comparison, it does not.

I don’t put much stock in those comparison images because you can’t quantify the effect of different lenses and lens correction algorithms on the final image file. That’s why people have searched for a more scientific way to compare cameras.

Image noise output is not going to change with a different lens at a given ISO. Look at graphs if you like, I'll look at what actually comes out of the camera.

So my question is to knwo if there will be a successor of the K70 or the KP soon ?
The short story is that the only new model expected at present is a new APS-C flagship model to replace the late and much lamented K-3/K-3II (the so-called K-new). I would expect the KP to continue for a couple more years or longer and a replacement for the K-70 when its feature set needs a refresh.

The replacements we covet may already be in the pipeline, but we won't hear about them until Ricoh is ready to tell us--and Ricoh won't be ready until they decide that the development costs of new models are less than the cost of being left behind in the market where they compete.

You will see what you want in the actual photos.
The graphs are based on objective comparisons.
You can depend on your subjective measures if you wish ... I do not,
