What does F--- mean on my camera.

It means you are using a non-A lens (no electrical contacts on lens) or the aperture ring is not set to "A". If the F-- is flashing it is because the camera setup menu doe not have "use aperture ring" enabled.

Just set the lens to "A" if you can, which might require also pressing the button on the aperture ring (ring with the numbers close to the lenses base) and it will disaper. But regarding the meaning itself - look at the first anwser.

Alternatively, it may mean that the lens is not properly attached to the mount on the camera, if you've done what Not a Number suggested above.

The F also appears when you use a lens baby with fixed aperture. To get the camera shake system to work, dial in the focal lens length.
