It's neither ... nor.

I don't have a real life FF problem with my K-r. Although I was able provoke FF in very low tungsten light situation. We are talking a light level as low as darkness and you woudn't expect the camera AF system to work here.

If you want to reproduce the FF you have to set the camera to AWB and turn the AF assist lamp off. Dim the tungsten light source to the lowest level and shoot from a tripod. Set the camera to Av and open the lens to the max.

In real life shooting this is an extreme situation and some workaround are possible:
1) set the WB to tungsten and the AF system works
2) set the camera on Live-View and AF will be spot on
3) set the camera to MF and use your eyes to check focus

cheers,
d

I'm not at the first dSLR camera and I know how it works. Thanks.

What about that? The picture was taken under sufficient tungsten light (although, with flash) and the focus was made on the right eye of my daughter, but the left one is in focus (verify with PhotoME)... I believe that the issue is not manifested in low light, I mean... the camera has a better AF in that conditions. I believe that tomorrow I'll send it to the seller.

PS: what serial is your camera?

That site is a pain. I was waiting for 1/2 hour but the image loaded just 20%. I can see the hair (pin sharp) on the head of a person. Looks like a flash was used. No idea what lens were you using, since the file is not downloadable. Please try posting it some other place.

Yes, you're right, I changed the upload site.
So, remember, the focus is made on the right eye, but the sharp is on the left one.
18-55, 55mm, f/5.6. Imagine with a f/1.4 lens...

Mine is 3818xxx, newer, I believe, but with same FF issues in tungsten.

I just had a phone conversation with the representative Pentax RO (to whom I sent my K-r for verifications/replacement) and he told me he talked with people from Pentax Europe. They agree there is a problem, but they don't have yet a solution for the front focus issue, under artificial light, especially tungsten.

Hmm. The update page has gone offline?

Uh.. And now the K-5 link from here, also points to 1.01, while the latest should be 1.02? Crashed website, or what?

Are you sure?
I believe only Kx has a 1.02 version update.

manninej meant the K-r subsite with the news about 1.01 firmware, which is still offline. K-5 has FW 1.01 but the site says 1.02.

Software Downloads : Support & Service : PENTAX

Yeah looks like they're re-doing the whole .Jp website, my old links are broken now, I see some altered UI and layouts too, so probably stuffed up, an omission.

Or it might be a plant for the alfoil-cap wearers who see black helicopters in the sky. Japanese have got a great sense of humour.

I just talked to the Pentax RO and they said the new firmware will appear in the next days. They have the information from Pentax Germany. I'm really curious to see if they said the truth.

Why?

Would you like Pentax to have a "patch tuesday" too, like Microsoft?
