... there's no dSLR or equivalent with usable in-video AF at the moment.
What about the Sony α33 / α55 / α77?
They all offer constant phase detect AF.

Interesting detail on this 05 Toy Lens Tele, as on the oher lenses : it appears to me that to date, Pentax had no factory in Thailand... is this confirmation the lenses are made by Ricoh ?
I'd say that's possible or even likely. Seeing as Nikon is there, sourcing general lens components is probably easier too.

News release | Ricoh Global
News release | Ricoh Global << mentions printer components, but that was 3 years ago.

If it is Ricoh, we see some actual business connections were made well before the transfer scheduled for October.

Sony is in Thailand too. The NEX is assembled there and Sony lenses for the NEX - eg the 16mm - also come from Thailand.

That looks ... inexpensive.

Reminds me a bit of a Brownie. i hope it's interesting optically.

--Was just looking at Ned Bunnell's Posterous blog. His Q photos have good exposure, saturation ramped up and the blue cast toned down that so many Q shots have displayed. They're quite nice at web sizes: wonder what they look like full size.

FWIW: I have also NEVER seen a Pentax lens with Japanese kanji on it.

Apologies if this has been discussed (I don't have the time to read 87 pages!) but what are these 'toy' lenses?

I like the idea of a compact interchangeable lens camera but not if the lenses don't match up to normal Pentax image quality standards.

Camera Lens - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site

There are 5 Q mount lenses, of which 2 feature 'toy' effect optics - one does quirky wide angle, another Lomo-style vignetting etc.

Would it be a mark of local preference targetted market ?

Pentax has been conspicuously low in the bcn rankings for about a year now - could it be that Pentax changed it retail channels in a way that made them appear lower in the channels? (BCN only counts sales from some retailers)

When this was discussed some months ago, someone mentioned kakaku, and while the Q is quite low on the list, it shows a completely different picture for the K-5 (the K-5+18-135 is the most popular kit in both rankings, but is number 28 in the kakaku ranking and 67 in the bcn ranking):

We'll see how it actually works in practice...
