I got to handle a pentax Q today. It is quite a remarkable little camera I was a bit surprised about the lack of depth to the lens mount, it would be quite easy to misplace a finger and get a smudge on the sensor cover glass.

I've posted the comparison shots between all cameras in the thread here:

Japanese Flickr user ken_san/nkenji continues to pump out interesting Q sample images on his photostream:

Flickr: nkenji's Photostream

This is a nice picture of his portable 990mm rig.

Pentax Q with Voigtlander 180mm f4
(990mm focal length in 35mm)

A comparison between a cropped 645D shot (on left) and a Q shot (on right), both shot with the Pentax M*800mm f6.7 ED lens:

His most extreme megatelephoto shot to date, of the planet Jupiter:

2011/10/04
Pentax Q+smc Pentax M*800mm f6.7 ED+2X Rear Converter

So that translates into about 8800mm in 35mm terms...

Hi rawr, the Voigtlander lens looks rather to be the APO Lanthar 125mm f/2.5

You could be right. I am not familiar with those lenses.

I am just copying the text below the images nkenji uploaded to his flickr. Perhaps you might ask him about it via a comment or a flickrmail?

It seems that he's getting better in handling the Q with that 800mm, and the Q shot is very nice, but the 645D shot is clearly front-focussed, so the comparison isn't quite fair.

I agree. I'm sure he could tune the focus on the 645D shot to improve how it compared.

I guess focussing that monster rig must be a formidable challenge, with either the 645D or Q attached. With the 645D, you can see the challenge very well in the shots where he is shooting birds through parallel crop rows, as per below:

The narrow plane of focus is clearly visible. At the distance he is probably shooting at (20m?), that's not much DOF to work with (maybe 30-50cm?), so nailing focus on small moving targets like birds must be a nightmare. He's doing well.

It's definitely a f/4 lens (see picture and red arrow). I presume it is the Voigtländer SL Apo Lanthar 180 mm f/4 (herebelow in Nikon mount)

The white scale corresponds to meters , the red one to feet.

I am sorry to insist: meters. Focus at 3 meters / 10 feet for instance.
