Pentax Q – has manual control in video mode. :)

According to this report:
Pentax Q – has manual control in video mode !!! pray hard for Pentax K3 !

would be really interesting that the next high end dSLR from Pentax will have too?

They really should add it to every dslr from now on. Pentax has virtually no presence in the filmmaking community, which is a shame.

If the K-5 had manual control in video along with H.264 like the Q I would have purchased it but I purchased the GH2 instead last December.

I can't imagine it been much more than a firmware update? I find it hard to believe the Q would have a more powerful processor than the K5.

It certainly is firmware only.
The Q has the same video mode dial position (conflicting with the M mode position) and less buttons. Everything else is software.

Adding manual controls to video for the Q must have been an afterthought. Otherwise, the Q would have gotten a video button (a separate red record button) rather than a mode dial position which is awkward anyway. Esp. if you later want to allow stills during video.

So, the question if there now will be a manual video mode firmware upgrade for the K-5 tells us a lot about what Pentax thinks about their customers ...

Pentax Q manual

The user manual is online:

-> http://www.pentaximaging.com/images/temp/63450924415047911335220manual_q_en_official.pdf

On page 110, it says:
QuoteQuote:
Exposure Setting: Use the four-way controller to select [Auto] or [Manual], and press the button.
Auto: Takes pictures with auto exposure. (default setting)
Manual: Allows you to set the shutter speed, aperture value, and sensitivity.
However:
QuoteQuote:
While recording a movie, the autofocus system does not operate.
Besides "Exposure Setting", the Menu in video mode has another new option:
"Interval Movie"
QuoteQuote:
Takes still pictures one by one at a set interval from a set time and records them as a single movie file.
It does so up to 99 hours with intervals between 1s and 1h. The new thing is that it can now create a single file.

Video clip length is up to 4GB/25min per movie. The user manual lacks a specification of storage capacity for video and therefore, we cannot yet compute the bitrate / practical length constraint.

AF control in video apparently is something everyone wants but after you have it you want manual AF in video. -- I read this somewhere. lol

Really hope Pentax will update the firmware to update the video mode in K5.

The evil Dell even have a petition page where user can sign up to request a feature update that can be done through firmware update of old product (and Dell responded well to requests), can we set up something like that in this forum? Only thing can be done with firmware update on existing product - like allowing K7 to use the GPS unit, not requesting a tilting LCD screen in the next body.

You are too harsh on Pentax k-x. Its a fine dSLR you don't have to call it P&S just because it can not AF during video.

Better the foot slip than the tongue.

All modern compact cameras with small sensors has AF in video mode. Don't you know about it?
Why are you talking about DSLR?

Qui pro quo. I have no any interest to such forum and no any hate to any thing of any brand.

Because I can.

You sound pissed off. My reply was meant to do so, so I am kinda enjoying it.
