I can't help but think that whilst the purpose of this thread was to say 'Look, the Q can produce images which at first glance aren't too far off the K-7', what it has actually done is say 'Look, the K-7 can produce images which at first glance aren't too far off the Q'.

TX5 vs Q vs K7

Now it's possible to compare using the 'comparometer' on Imaging Resource. I found it interesting to compare the Q with the Sony TX5, which keeps getting mentioned as having the 'same sensor' as the Q (???), and the K7. I'd give the TX5 a 6 out of 10 for how it renders those fine hair details, the Q would get 7 or 7.5, and the K7 gets a 9.

TX5 / Q / K7 at ISO 200:

What was the aperture on those three shots? My TX5 can render hair detail better than that when in focus at low ISOs.

... and ....the current Sony Cybershots do indeed use the Exmor R sensor.
