Q lenses programmable

A update for the Q lenses implies that they are programmable in some way.
I haven't come across this before.
Any ideas as to what this adds to Q performance?

(question also posted on dpreview)

I doubt the data goes into the lenses themselves - my question is, why didn't Pentax just bundle the whole update in a single file?

According to the update release notes, this update simply fixed bugs and improved stability.

The micro 4/3 lenses have been getting firmware updates. Olympus just released new firmware for their older 14-42mm kit lenses to let them focus faster with the EP3. So maybe the focus improvements we're seeing are due to the lens firmware being updated. Someone who hasn't updated their body and lens yet could test this by testing the AF speed after only updating the body.

I updated the body first, and played with it, before updating the lenses. The body update sped up the af and seems to have made it more accurate.

I think the lens firmware update does download into the lens. If you try to use a different lens than firmware you can't even get it to show up on the menu.

Olympus lenses, flash, and accessories have firmware. Once had to update the fw in the 25 extension tube!
thanks

One can imagine that if body FW increases Q's global reactivity, lenses must keep in coherence with this ; therefore the two primes' 4 "in-lenses" functions as AF, physical shutter, aperture ring and ND filter disposal, have to be optimized as well.
