First shots with a few lenses

First up is a Nikkor 85mm F/1.8 K and the second shot is with a Tamron Adaptall SP 35-80mm F/2.8-3.8 (Adaptall Q adapter) at 80mm and the third is with a Sigma 50-500 OS Nikon mount at 500mm. My original interest in the Q was the possibility of getting a better image of a distant subject than I can with a D7000. Any tips would be appreciated.

Good work CS!
For long distances with long lenses I find using a steady tripod is needed.
To get focus spot on a loupe helps a lot, otherwise using 4x magnification of the display helps some.
The Q image will start to be impacted by diffraction after 5.6, so when I use my Sigma OS 50-500 I expect that details will start to get a little smeared since the lens starts at f6.3 and the lens itself improves at f8.
(The best 500mm shots on the Q I have seen so far have been with the Sigma 500mm 4.5 prime, usually shot at f5.6)
The best performer for me so far is the DA*300 F4 which I typically shoot at f5.6.
A couple of other things to note:
Use of timer delay or IR Remote helps to reduce vibration in long shots.
Ambient conditions such as heat or haze will be much more apparent on long shots of this type. (I have a lot of trouble trying to get clean shots of shore birds where there is a patch of sand between me and the bird on the ground as the heatwaves from the sand really impact the shot.)
To find the bird quickly, consider a red dot scope since it is very difficult to acquire the target on long shots otherwise.

Good shots but what do you mean machine vision?
The close up was shot with a Fujinon HF16HA-1B C-mount machine vision lens.

Ditto! Some really great shots in here that I have a feeling would not have been taken with a full-on DSLR.
I also just love seeing people using the camera for what it is, instead of criticizing it for what it is not.

Tempted as I am to pretend otherwise, honesty compels me to mention that the attractive figure in the second shot is a mannequin!

A great museum/historical site in Marseille that was literally down the street from my old apartment. Only took 6 years to even know it existed!

Another great place in Marseille. The old convent.

My cheapo 40.5mm 720nm IR filter from ebay just arrived. Ofcourse the sun wasn't shining for proper testing but here is my first picture with it. I think it will be great when the weather clears. (Q, 02 lens @7mm, slightly cropped, 6s exposure, f4.5, iso 125, curves + saturation modified in PS)

Hi Spellcaster. The museum is called Le Musee des Docks Romains and here is the address ; 10 Place Vivaux, 13002.
It is behind the Mairie. It is not a huge museum but still worth it.

If you go on the first sunday of the month in the morning it is free to get in (as are most museums in Marseille).

Enjoy!

Thanks, I appreciate it and will be using your advice. I sold my 50-500 OS to a guy that had the Siqma 500 F/4.5, we hooked it up to the Q. It was fun, he's looking for one to buy for himself.
