Really detailed shot. Is this a native or adapted lens?
M 28/3.5 + extension tube on adapter. Shallow DoF becomes problematic if the samples are not flat.

Thanks Michelek - the Q is beautiful for b/w - the grain (sorry, noise) begins to be really nice at ISO800...

front dial [Bold Monochrome] - 1/25th sec - ISO400 - center crop of mirror shot

front dial [Bold Monochrome] - 1/125th sec - ISO125

thanks/Erik

Nice shots Harriet. Which lens did you use?
The first one was taken with the 01 lens, the lizard and the den with the 06 lens. I was surprised the lizard stayed still for a while, watching me. I leaned over and reached out as far as my arms would allow to try to get the camera closer, without actually moving my feet, to try to stay out of its alarm zone. I actually got fairly close, closer than I ever get to the lizards around here (different variety). Next time I hope I'll have hoods for the lenses and at least one circular polarizer, I ran into issues when I was shooting landscape type shots with the light bouncing around. Also I had the camera set to AWB, because for the most part I find it works quite well under normal conditions. The shots that were mostly sand had a weird color cast - the camera had trouble dealing with the bright light, I think. I didn't realize it until I got into the shade, I was grateful I was shooting raw+. I didn't have the Hoodman loupe - I had not left Saturday morning with any idea about visiting Kelso Dunes, just visiting family. I really didn't expect to take many pictures at all, but I was feeling a bit sleepy and definitely bored in the lighter than normal traffic, so I impulsively turned south on Kelbaker Road. I'm glad I did make the stop this time, I'll not forget the loupe, hiking boots, or the suntan lotion next time. I was also there at around 10 am - the light was already pretty flat. Next time I'll plan to arrive much earlier.

Also don't forget about the handy built in ND filter we have (as I do most of the time). In a situation like the Dunes it might help you getting the exposure you want.

Use the Share- HTML/BB code option. Basically it has to have [IMG] tags wrapped around the URL.

When editing you will see the code but once you submit it should convert it. not sure why it doesnt work from your end.

I did think of the ND filter briefly, but I haven't yet played with it and wasn't sure how to access it. I didn't want to take the time right then to read the directions. Another thing I need to play with very soon so I know how to turn it on before I really need it.

Here's a few more from Madison, Wisconsin. The fountain was taken with the 02, the rest with the 03.
